They work like a catalyst. Enzymes help to speed up the rate of chemical reaction in the digestive system. They do this by decreasing the amount of activation energy required to start the reaction. Protease break down the protein, Amylase help to break down the carbohydrates and lipase break down fats into smaller components as food would be too big for us to swallow.
