Due to a ruined economy returning 11/ state back into the union and promoting the right of former slaves

The souths economy was built off of slavery, and when the civil war ended it ended slavery, which destroyed the souths economy because slaves were no longer producing goods for it. So because slavery ended, goods were no longer being produced for the south like they were before the civil war leading to a decrease in the output of goods for the south.
