The explicit formula would be [tex]g_n=5\times3^{n-1}[/tex]

The sequence is geometric, since we are multiplying by a constant each time to get the next term.  The common ratio, r, is 3.  The first term, g₁, is 5.  An explicit formula for a geometric sequence is given by

[tex]g_n=g_1 \times r^{n-1}[/tex]

Using our information, we have [tex]g_n=5 \times 3^{n-1}[/tex]
